Mean Action Time for Di usive Processes KERRY

چکیده

For a number of di usive processes involving heat and mass transfer, a convenient and easy way to solve for penetration time or depth is to consider an averaged quantity called mean action time. This approach was originally developed by Alex McNabb, in collaboration with other researchers. It is possible to solve for mean action time without actually solving the full di usion problem, which may be nonlinear, and may have internal moving boundaries. Mean action time satis es a linear Poisson equation, and only works for nite problems. We review some nice properties of mean action time, and discuss some recent novel applications.

Wavefronts and global stability in a time-delayed population model with stage structure

We formulate and study a one-dimensional single-species di¬usive-delay population model. The time delay is the time taken from birth to maturity. Without di¬usion, the delay di¬erential model extends the well-known logistic di¬erential equation by allowing delayed constant birth processes and instantaneous quadratically regulated death processes. This delayed model is known to have simple globa...

Motion In A Gaussian , Incompressible Flow

We prove that the solution of a system of random ordinary di erential equations dX(t) dt = V(t;X(t)) with di usive scaling, X"(t) = "X( t " ), converges weakly to a Brownian Motion when " # 0. We assume that V(t;x), t 2 R, x 2 R is a d-dimensional, random, incompressible, stationary Gaussian eld which has mean zero and decorrelates in nite time.

Lattice Gas Automata for Di usive-Convective Transport Dynamics

The lattice gas automaton (LGA) for di usive-convective transport dynamics is constructed in terms of LGA building elements: propagation and mixing [1, 13]. The LGA transport dynamics is described by microdynamical equations and discrete Boltzmann equations, from which the corresponding macroscopic PDE's are derived [1, 13].

Diiusion in Turbulence

We prove long time di usive behavior (homogenization) for convection-di usion in a turbulent ow that it incompressible and has a stationary and square integrable stream matrix. Simple shear ow examples show that this result is sharp for ows that have stationary stream matrices.
